The Chocolate Diet

Prevention Magazine posted a cute article saying those who eat chocolate a couple times a week have a lower BMI than those who don't and the chocolate eaters actually consume more calories. Chocolate (in moderation) really does help your metabolism. Love it!

Ready for those resolutions

I think I'm almost ready to stop the chocolate party. Almost! But I decided I'm getting too old to go on some strict diet (plus, diets never last for me) so I'm just going to be smart and exercise some self-control, but not make myself crazy. My poor family just doesn't deserve a chocolate-free Momma, it's not fun for any of us!

Most of my resolutions this year are focused on being more patient, more charitable, and less of a shellfish (sorry, if you're not a Junie B. Jones fan that won't make much sense).

What about you? I love hearing about resolutions, it gets me motivated to set more myself!
Have a wonderful New Year!

Cami

Chocolate Update

I had to share with all of you that I am doing pretty good breaking my chocolate addiction. I posted several weeks ago that I was going to go chocoalte free on the weekdays. I've done it (three whole weeks, wow!). I've actually felt pretty good and haven't been too irritable (don't ask my boys, they might disagree). The thing that I've been really excited about is on the weekends I haven't gone nuts eating chocolate. I have definitely eaten some chocolate but it's been reasonable portion sizes and rarely more than once a day. I've really prayed hard for help to break this addiction and I know I'm not 100% cured but I feel much more in control and I like that.

How do you curb your desire for chocolate or sugar?

National Oreo Day

I have been doing exceptionally well with my no chocolate during the weekday pledge. Honestly I was feeling pretty smug about it. Yesterday my husband brought home four packages of double-stuff Oreos. Four. It was National Oreo Day or some such nonsense!
I almost caved. I sniffed. I pondered how they would taste. But then I told myself that I'd promised my blogging buddies no chocolate until Friday and I grabbed one of those bags of Oreos and hid it where not even my husband will find it.
Can't wait for Friday!

Abstaining from chocolate

Okay, friends, I need some moral support. I'm seriously worried about my chocolate addiction and decided it was time to stop saying, "After this bowl of ice cream I'll be good."
I thought a pledge to the entire world (or all 46 of you who follow this blog) would help me stick by my morning workout convictions. Isn't it amazing how healthy you plan on being when you're in the middle of a workout?
Here's my plan: No chocolate or ice cream Monday through Thursday. Friday through Saturday I can have a small treat as needed (every hour?).
What do you think? Too strict? Please don't tell me if you think it's pathetic because this is a really big step for me!
If you want to join my chocolate free pledge or make one of your own, leave a comment below. I would love some crazy friends with me on this journey. Thanks!

Up and at 'em

I hate dragging myself from my soft bed at five a.m. But once I'm out on the street or at the gym I'm thrilled that I started my day early and fit in a fabulous workout. The problem comes in the afternoon when I fall asleep trying to edit my latest novel. I know a nap, a walk, or sniffing some peppermint oil is a healthier option but lately I've found myself eating chocolate or chugging a Diet Coke.
What do you do to reenergize yourself?

Headcase

This merry-go-round of trying to eat right is turning me into a headcase. I motor along for a few days being healthy and happy then I'm slammed with the need for chocolate. I tell myself I'll be satisfied by a square of Ghirardelli dark chocolate, but I end up eating the entire bar, then I start searching for ice cream or convince myself that baking cookies qualifies me for "Best Mom of the Year Club."
Sadly I talk myself into most of these transgressions. I justify: I worked hard today at the gym, I deserve a treat, or I excuse: I have no self-control. I really hate it when I convince myself that I have no self-control. I know it's not true, but it's an easy lie to believe, it excuses my chocolate snitches.
The best I can do when I get like this is to remove myself from the situation: go on a walk, call my sister for emotional support, go play with my boys, say a prayer for help. Eventually I can convince myself I do have self-control. It's amazing how empowering it is when I actually exercise that self-control rather than bury it with chocolate urgings.
I'm a Mormon.
